The Discovery Program

The Discovery Program provides educational therapy intervention from the National Institute for Learning Development. It is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association and is a ministry partner with the Association of Christian Schools International. This research-based program is suited for students who are experiencing significant learning challenges resulting in learning frustration and failure. These challenges may be caused by ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, thinking & learning difficulties, or language deficits. Educational therapy addresses the underlying cause of these learning challenges by strengthening student’s cognition, perception, academic skills, emotions, and lifelong learning abilities (NILD, 2023).

Students can be referred to the Discovery Program by the principal, teacher or a parent/guardian. The program director will decide if a student will be enrolled. Students are required to take a battery of assessments upon entering the program. From this information, recommendations are made for the appropriate, educational therapy intervention. Students are taken out of the classroom, 2-3 days per week and work in a one-on-one setting. The length of their educational therapy session time is determined by the student’s individual needs. This program has an additional, annual curriculum fee and monthly installment, homework assignments and also a quarterly grade. Parent and student involvement in all aspects of the program are critical to student success. An annual evaluation is done to determine if therapy should continue the following school year.

Search and Teach©

Search© is an individual, readiness skills screening given to all Kindergarten and new first grade students in the fall. The results of this screening assist in identifying students who may be vulnerable to learning difficulties. Parents are informed of these results when all screenings are completed in November.

Teach© is the corresponding program to the Search© screening. It consists of tasks carefully designed to intervene student needs revealed in the screening. The program strengthens neuropsychological skills required to read and write. While this is not an explicit reading program, the goal is to prevent learning difficulties in reading and writing before they even begin.

Students in the Teach© program are taken out of the classroom 3 days per week for 30 minutes and work in a one-on-one setting. This program has an additional, monthly installment. Students are evaluated annually to determine if therapy should continue the following school year.
